When you are going on a camping or hunting trip, it is easy to think in the short-term. Most people will pack enough for their planned trip, and maybe one or two extra days’ worth of supplies. However, if you want to be fully prepared, you should always carry enough supplies for a longer, unexpected stay in the wild. To become a survivalist, you will need to get prepared as well as stay prepared.

It’s important to start prepared, instead of winging it. It’s not enough to just pack a survivalist book along with some extra food. Survival courses are a detrimental part of learning basic survival skills. Along with learning the supplies you will need, you will learn hands-on experience instead of simple book-learned knowledge. Application of these skills is more important than remembering some facts and information!

It may seem like a lot to take in at first, but this knowledge and experience will stay with you for the rest of your life. If a basic survival skills course can help you in a dire situation, the value of the course will become clear. Surviving is an instinct that we all possess. This however does not mean it will come naturally to us in the wild. We are conditioned to indoor living, with luxuries like bottled water, smart phones, and easy access to food and appliances. Americans have become steadily more and more lazy. Disaster can strike at any time, and we must all remain prepared for when it does.
